THIS GUIDANCE NOTE SUPERSEDES THE ONE ISSUED IN NOVEMBER 2004.
Rely on this and ignore the previous one. Important points are shown in red.
You will need to ship you car by container into Buenos Aires, Argentina and home from Guayaquil, Ecuador. You will also need air tickets for the same routes.
Although the rally finishes in the town of Quito all cars will be driven to the port city of Guayaquil the following day and the Awards Dinner will be in Guayaquil. So anybody planning to have their wife or friends join them at the finish should organise air tickets to Guayaquil rather than Quito
Worldwide shipping costs are updated and revised every couple of months to take in increases in fuel price and other factors; therefore we have not listed any guideline costs. A good shipping agent will search the market to find the most competitive carrier for you.
Remember that shipping prices fall into two categories: (a) the ocean freight element, in other words the cost of using the container and having it shipped to your chosen port and (b) the port, handling and customs charges. Your shipping agent will give you a breakdown of those costs.
Do remember that the agent handling the import of your container will also charge port and handling costs.
One word of advice with air tickets try to use the same carrier for the flight out to Buenos Aires and home from Ecuador. This effectively makes it a round trip and therefore cheaper than two one-way tickets. Most Internet booking sites allow you to select a multi-destination option.
The list of Agents below is, we hope, helpful guidance. We have used them and found them to be reliable and professional. We suggest that you shop around and search for the best quotes. If you find any hot deals please advise Rally Office so we can pass on the good news. And remember that sending two cars in a container saves money.

FROM GUAYAQUIL, ECUADOR AFTER THE FINISH
On our Route Survey trip we spoke with several shipping companies and shipping agents and selected one that we believe to be the best available. They did a very tidy and professional job of shipping TWE’s Jeep back to the UK. They found the cheapest ocean freight rate and their handling charges were less than others quoted.
They have undertaken to be responsible for the shipment of all cars and have arranged a secure yard 15 minutes from the Guayaquil hotel to which all cars can be delivered. The route will be shown in the Road Book. Drive your car there the day after the Awards Dinner, go in groups with an appropriate number of cabs following you to bring you back to the hotel. You won’t find cabs where the yard is.
Contact Hugo Ochoa (see below) in advance and ask for a quote.

Previous advice that cars could be sent by road transport from Quito to Guayaquil was investigated but found not to be reliable.
